Trending the ultrasonic energy produced by the machine is a first
line of defense in machine condition monitoring. Changes in a rotating
machine's condition usually occurs in the ultrasonic range first,
somewhere in the 40 KHz range. An ultrasonic detector designed to detect
frequencies above our hearing capability is used for this
purpose. Over time and as the machine deteriorates, the frequency spectrum widens towards lower
frequencies. Catching the signs early on will
help in prioritizing and giving more in depth machine inspections
only to machines who need these extra attention. This is especially helpful when there
are hundreds of machines to be inspected. Ultrasound PdM
is quick and will monitor the changes in ultrasonic energy
generated by even the slightest metal to metal contact of
moving components. Report will show machine information as well as ultrasonic energy
